Introduction
At TenneT, we work on the electricity grid of tomorrow. As a Technical Application Manager Interconnects, you play a crucial role in enabling a reliable and future-proof European energy system. From your expertise, you contribute directly to the stability, security, and performance of cross-border energy processes – today and in the future.

About TenneT, unit, department and team
TenneT is Europe’s first cross-border Transmission System Operator (TSO). With approximately 22,000 kilometers of high-voltage lines and over 41 million end-users in the Netherlands and Germany, we are among the top five grid operators in Europe.

We operate a highly interconnected energy system with neighboring countries to support the North-West European energy market, integrate renewable energy, and optimize system reliability and safety. Safety & Security are key values at TenneT, and we maintain high standards for both employees and contractors.

You will be working in the team responsible for building, maintaining, and improving cross-border (interconnector) processes and systems. This team operates in a highly technical and mission-critical environment, supporting international energy flows and market operations.

The function
How do you keep the Netherlands (and Europe) powered? As a Technical Application Manager Interconnects, you are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining critical applications and processes that support cross-border electricity exchange.

Your responsibilities include:
• Designing, developing, and maintaining robust cross-border processes using Ansible, focusing on performance, reliability, security, observability, and scalability
• Containerizing and deploying workloads to Kubernetes clusters, applying best practices for CI/CD, monitoring, certificate management, and fault tolerance
• Implementing comprehensive test coverage (unit, integration, and system testing) to ensure quality and stability
• Diagnosing and resolving issues in testing and production environments, with a strong focus on root cause analysis and sustainable solutions
• Continuously improving codebases, deployment pipelines, and engineering practices
• Actively contributing to design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
• Participating in standby/on-call rotations (approximately once every two months) for mission-critical systems

In this role you act as a key technical specialist within the team and contribute to the reliability and evolution of cross-border energy systems. You work in an agile, DevOps-oriented environment and collaborate closely with engineers, operations teams, and international stakeholders.

What do you bring?
• Experience with Ansible and Python
• Experience with SQL databases (preferably Oracle RDBMS)
• Experience with or willingness to learn GitLab, VMware, and Kubernetes
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices (e.g., GitOps, observability, Elastic/ECK, auto-scaling)
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum / Kanban) and in cross-functional teams
• Strong sense of ownership across the application lifecycle

Competencies:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work in a complex, international enterprise environment
• Fluency in English (Dutch is a big plus); the whole team is Dutch.

Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics)

Practical information
• Location: Arnhem (2–3 days per week on-site)
• Working hours: 32 to 40 hours
• On-call/standby duty: approximately once every two months
• A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) and a UVO screening is required before start
