• For this application, we are looking for someone with extensive crypto experience. Writing policies, overseeing them, and giving advice is very important. This person will be less operationally involved.
Working independently and communicating a lot with the various stakeholders is important. The department is undergoing a lot of changes. We are looking for someone who has a lot of experience within a large corporate company or another well-known firm.
Within Financial Economic Crime (FEC) and Transaction Monitoring, we are executing transformational change to become best-in-class in managing emerging financial crime risks associated with Digital Assets and Crypto-related activities. As part of our change journey, we are looking for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Crypto & Digital Assets. The Subject Matter Expert plays a key role in the Global SIRA, RAS and policy development processes, ensuring that risks related to cryptocurrencies, digital assets, Crypto-asset service providers (CASPs), and related technologies are adequately identified, assessed, mitigated and governed.
Purpose
The Subject Matter Expert Crypto & Digital Assets is responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing FEC policies, risk frameworks, controls and monitoring approaches related to Crypto and Digital Asset activities.
The SME acts as the center of expertise on emerging digital asset ecosystems, regulatory developments, financial crime risks and mitigation measures, supporting strategic decision-making and implementation across the organization.
Assignment
Define and maintain risk and control frameworks for Digital Asset and Crypto-related risks, including money laundering, sanctions evasion, fraud, market manipulation, market abuse and other emerging financial crime threats.
Control measures may be preventive and/or detective, manual and/or automated, and should leverage industry best practices, data analytics and emerging technologies.
Act as a trusted advisor for operational teams, policy owners and senior management by providing expert guidance on Digital Asset-related topics, individual cases, emerging risks and regulatory expectations.
Deliverables
• Provide global insights and expert guidance regarding Digital Asset and Crypto-related FEC Assessments;
• Deliver solicited and unsolicited professional advice to FEC, Compliance, Risk, business stakeholders and senior management;
• Develop and maintain FEC policies, standards and governance frameworks related to Digital Assets and Crypto;
• Monitor regulatory, industry and technological developments and translate these into risk assessments, policy updates and control enhancements.
• Define and document effective risk mitigation controls;
• Manage implementation of new controls and enhancement of existing controls across FEC and business functions;
• Contribute to the implementation and operationalization of global procedures, standards and policies related to Digital Assets;
• Create and maintain narratives and storylines demonstrating how the organization identifies, assesses, monitors and mitigates risks associated with Crypto and Digital Assets;
• Support strategic initiatives related to Digital Assets, Tokenization, Stablecoins and emerging financial technologies;
• Build organizational capability and expertise through coaching, training development, knowledge sharing and awareness sessions.
Reporting
The SME will periodically report on risk exposure, mitigation activities, control effectiveness and emerging developments within the Digital Asset and Crypto ecosystem.
The SME will create a comprehensive storyline demonstrating how the organization manages Digital Asset-related financial crime risks while balancing innovation, customer needs and regulatory compliance.
Skills & Experience
Essential Knowledge & Expertise
• Deep knowledge of Digital Assets, Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain Technology and Tokenized Finance;
• Strong understanding of Crypto-related Financial Crime risks, including Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, Sanctions Evasion, Market;
• Manipulation, Fraud and Market Abuse;
• Extensive knowledge of Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs), Crypto Exchanges, Custodians, Stablecoins and Decentralized Finance (DeFi);
• Thorough understanding of relevant regulatory and supervisory frameworks, including MiCA, AMLD, FATF Guidance, Travel Rule requirements and international Crypto regulations;
• Experience designing and implementing risk mitigation frameworks, policies and controls for Digital Asset businesses or financial institutions;
• Understanding of blockchain analytics, transaction monitoring solutions and digital asset risk management methodologies.

Qualifications
• Master's degree or equivalent working and thinking level;
• 8+ years of relevant experience within Financial Services, Compliance, Risk Management, Financial Crime, Digital Assets or Emerging Technologies;
• Demonstrable expertise in Crypto, Blockchain, Tokenization, Financial Markets or related domains;
• Proven experience managing complex regulatory, risk or transformation initiatives.

Additional information:
• Work is done in a hybrid way, according to the Rabobank @anywhere principle;
• Due to increasing congestion at the Rabobank location on Croeselaan in Utrecht, a new parking policy will take effect from April 2026. From Monday to Thursday, external employees will no longer be able to park on the Croeselaan site. Only on Fridays will parking for externals still be possible;
• Please note: employment-freelance constructions are not allowed according to Rabobank policy. Do not submit candidates through this construction. Compliance will also be checked during screening;
• Candidate suppliers must be aware of the applicable laws and regulations regarding employment conditions and the (Rabobank) collective labor agreement. This role falls under scale 11 of the Rabobank CAO;
