Background
Preventing Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing is one of the key responsibilities of our organisation and critical to safeguarding society. As a bank we play a central role in detecting and preventing financial crime at scale. This requires not only strong execution, but continuous evolution of our detection capabilities.
We are looking for a highly experienced Data Scientist who combines deep technical expertise with strategical leadership, and who thrives on uncovering patterns in large-scale transactional data to detect criminal behaviour.
Role overview
In this temporary role, you act as the technical content lead for Transaction Monitoring (TM) Detection within Wholesale & Rural (W&R). You will be responsible for shaping, governing and evolving the detection logic and advanced analytics capabilities within this domain. The assignment will end at the end of January 2027. You operate in a strategic, non-hierarchical leadership position, with impact across multiple squads and stakeholders. While you do not have direct reports, you are accountable for raising the overall performance, quality, and maturity of all Data Scientists through coaching and content leadership. In addition, you are a core member of the Sub Area Leadership Team (SALT), where you jointly drive strategy, prioritization and people management. You ensure that technical decision-making is robust, forward-looking, and aligned with business, regulatory and technical requirements. Finally, you join the other Content Leads within the Area, where you represent your domain, influence cross-area priorities and contribute to defining our technical direction and standards at scale.
Within your role you will work closely together with a variety of roles, such as Data Scientists, Solution Architects, Scenario Experts, DevOps Engineers, Product Owners, and Analytics Translators, requiring you to adjust your messaging on your conversation partner. In addition, you will closely align with (senior) management, which requires a high level of organisational sensitivity, to the point explanations and experience in high stake decision making. It is vital you inspire confidence in others and can drive change in a complex stakeholder field.

Key responsibilities
The candidate will join the team to contribute to delivering the following results:
· Accelerate the migration of multiple W&R locations into our Detection model
· Carry responsibility for (large parts of) our detection logic and the alignment between W&R and RNL detection functionalities
· Introduce advanced analytics, such as machine learning and/or network analytics in close collaboration with stakeholders outside of our Tribe
· Act as a sparring partner for senior colleagues/content leads, driving important strategical and technical priorities
· Join the Sub Area Leadership Team (SALT) and contribute directly to topics around people management, priority setting and long-term strategy.
· Lead alignment with adjacent fields (IT, Architecture, FEC TM) to create a robust road to production for our data science model(s)
· Drive adoption of best practices, standards, and ways of working across teams, by providing hands-on guidance, as well as through the coaching of (senior) data scientists within our Area
· Build a future-proof organisation by closing knowledge gaps, organizing hackathons, and empower your close peers to take initiative and deliver change
· Is motivated to work on models that realize measurable impact (i.e., catch criminals), rather than focusing only on building the most complex advanced analytics models
· Is structured, precise, communicative, and can work well with different people and roles

Profile
For this position we require:
· Academic degree (MSc / PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or any related STEM field
· 7+ years of experience in advanced analytics, modelling or AI in complex regulated environments, as well as bringing (advanced) models and systems to produce.
