For the Strategy department of TenneT we are looking for an:
Innovation Manager
Introduction
The European Union wants to deploy 300 GW of offshore wind by 2050 to meet its climate targets and to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel. The most efficient way of transporting electricity from offshore wind is via multi-terminal high voltage direct current (HVDC) grids.
The project “Enabling interoperability of multi-vendor HVDC grids” (InterOPERA), funded by Horizon Europe, unites 21 European partners to unlock the potential of HVDC grids and foster the transition of the European energy sector at large scale.
The InterOPERA project will define technical frameworks and standards for electricity transmission and accelerate the integration of renewable energy. Ensuring that HVDC systems, HVDC transmission systems or HVDC components from different suppliers can work together – making them “interoperable”- is a top priority to accelerate Europe’s energy transition.
InterOPERA’s main objective is to make future HVDC systems mutually compatible and interoperable by design, to improve the grid forming capabilities of offshore and onshore converters and pave the way for the first HVDC multi-terminal, multi-vendor, multi-purpose real-life projects in Europe.
TenneT’s role
TenneT is participating the project and leading the Work Package 2 (WP2). WP2 deals with specification and assessment of interoperability for multi-terminal multi-vendor HVDC systems. The aim of WP2 is to define the functional framework of MV MT HVDC systems, together with operational level interfaces. WP2 has first to specify basic functional requirements for HVDC subsystems and functional requirements for GFC of HVDC systems and PPMs. WP2 will assess the interoperability of the C&P systems developed by the vendors in WP3, using the simulation framework from WP1. Thanks to specifications and results coming from all WPs, DC Grid Code recommendations for MV MT HVDC systems will be established and a verification process and benchmark for multi-vendor interoperability of HVDC systems will be provided.
Under this work package there is specific tasks that TenneT NL will be leading/coordinating. This task focuses on the interaction studies to be performed in order to investigate interactions of converters and other assets (protection system, cables, transformers, etc.) at the AC and DC connection points. Attention should be put on the practicalities of handling such studies in a multi-vendor situation (e.g. setting up the responsibilities of stakeholders). It is foreseen that interaction studies will be based both on offline EMT simulation with detailed models, as well as on real-time HIL simulation. After the validation of the simulation platforms in other work packages, the results will be integrated into these platforms. The conclusion of the interaction studies will be used to provide recommendations for the use of the functional requirements and specifications in future real-life projects.
Profile:
To conduct this specific task, TenneT is searching for an experienced project manager with adequate understanding of HVDC systems, that is available 3 days per week till the end of 2026.

• Maintain an issue logger and procedure of reporting the progress of integration tests;
• Coordinate with the relevant OEMs to ensure that all partners are delivering their tasks according to the grant agreement;
• Report based on the issue logger all issues identified with respect to the integration tests. For this activity the issue logger protocol needs to be maintained;
• Report to the WP2 lead as well as the project coordinator all organizational aspects of the project, including progress made;
• Report to the task lead and WP2 any project execution risks on time;
