About TenneT, the Unit, Department and Team
TenneT is Europe’s leading transmission system operator and plays a pivotal role in the energy transition. With more than 23,500 kilometres of high-voltage connections and nearly 5,000 employees, we ensure a secure and reliable electricity supply in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany.

You will join the Sustainability & Innovation team.
The Sustainability & Innovation team is a relatively new and internationally diverse team that is still developing in terms of structure, governance, ways of working, role clarity, and team cohesion. The team is responsible for advancing sustainability topics such as decarbonisation, circularity, biodiversity, and human rights, while also driving innovation initiatives across the organization.

The Role
How do you help keep the Netherlands powered? As an Manager Sustainability & Innovation, you provide leadership and stability during a maternity leave period while ensuring the continued execution of the Sustainability & Innovation agenda. In addition to maintaining business continuity, you support the further development and maturation of the team.

Your responsibilities include the following:

Team Leadership & Development:
• Providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, and guidance to the Sustainability & Innovation team.
• Supporting the continued development of a relatively new team.
• Strengthening collaboration, trust, and engagement within the team.
• Managing complex team dynamics in a constructive and professional manner.
• Ensuring role clarity, accountability, and effective ways of working.
• Fostering an inclusive and psychologically safe environment while maintaining high performance standards.

Team Maturity & Organizational Development:
• Further developing team structure and governance where needed.
• Clarifying roles, responsibilities, interfaces, and decision-making processes.
• Establishing clear expectations and accountability mechanisms.
• Applying innovation management practices to balance creativity, collaboration, and execution.

Strategic Delivery:
• Ensuring continued execution of the Sustainability & Innovation strategy.
• Driving progress against agreed objectives, milestones, and KPIs.
• Balancing operational requirements with longer-term strategic priorities.
• Identifying and mitigating risks that may impact delivery.

Stakeholder Management:
• Acting as the primary leadership contact for internal and external stakeholders.
• Representing the team in leadership meetings.
• Building and maintaining productive relationships across functions and business units.
• Ensuring transparent communication and alignment on priorities and outcomes.

Operational Management:
• Overseeing planning, prioritization, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Monitoring team performance and delivery of commitments.
• Ensuring effective escalation management and issue resolution.

You will work closely with the Sustainability & Innovation team, the Manager of Strategy and Innovation, and a broad network of internal and external stakeholders.

What You Bring:
• Strong leadership experience in both sustainability and innovation.
• Proven experience establishing, building, or transforming new teams and organizations.
• Demonstrated experience defining team structures, governance, roles, and responsibilities.
• Knowledge of sustainability reporting (to support annual report).
• Significant intercultural leadership experience within international and diverse environments.
• Experience within large asset-heavy organisations (energysector, infrastructure, semi-government).
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing.

Soft skills:
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Experience successfully managing challenging team dynamics and organizational change.
• The ability to quickly build credibility and trust with team members and senior stakeholders.
• The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.
• A firm, decisive, and resilient leadership style.
• The ability to establish and maintain clear boundaries, expectations, and accountability while fostering engagement and collaboration.

Important:
• This is a temporary position to cover a maternity leave.
• Independent contractors (ZZP) are excluded from this position.
• Working from home is possible, but the candidate is expected to work on location at least every Thursday + one other day per week.

Additional information:
• A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) must be in place before the candidate can start.
• A Pre‑Employment Screening (PES) is standard upon onboarding.
• Suppliers must be aware of the laws and regulations regarding employment conditions and Tennet’s Collective Labour Agreement. This assignment is placed in scale 19;
• We would like to receive the personal motivation of the candidate and CV in Dutch or English.

Screening:
• Pre-employment screening: If the candidate is selected to start, a pre-employment screening will be executed. We will send you the required documents to be filled in and returned as soon as possible. Your candidate is only allowed to start after the pre-employment screening has been completed successfully. The VOG Application is part of the screening. The VOG must be received before the candidate could start;
• All submitted candidates must be in possession of a valid Passport or ID card, which must be taken along to the interview and at the start of the assignment.

Availability:
• Important, the candidate has to be available throughout the entire duration of the assignment;
